DLF North America Launches ‘We Love Alfalfa’ Campaign
DLF's North American business unit is excited to announce the launch of its 'We Love Alfalfa' campaign, which highlights alfalfa's importance to society and DLF's role in driving the alfalfa industry forward through research, innovation and collaboration.
DLF, the worldwide market leader in forage seed, is focused on providing continuity amidst significant industry consolidation by ensuring North American producers maintain access to high performance alfalfa genetics and the agronomic solutions they need.
On September 1, 2023, DLF acquired the Corteva Agriscience conventional alfalfa breeding program and related assets, marking an important evolution in the industry. Today, the conventional alfalfa genetics and varieties previously offered from the Pioneer®, Dairyland Seed® and Alforex Seeds® brands are now available exclusively through DLF. The former Alforex Seeds and Dairyland Seed alfalfa varieties are available under DLF's Alforex Seeds® brand while the former Pioneer alfalfa varieties are available under DLF's Forage First® 5 SeriesTM brand, alongside the Forage First brand portfolio. In the U.S., these products are distributed by La Crosse Seed, DLF's U.S. distribution division. In Canada, products are distributed by DLF Canada's East and West distribution teams, as well as its East farm retail network.
DLF alfalfa breeders work with the largest and most diverse pool of alfalfa germplasm in the world, a culmination of several robust, successful and distinct breeding programs that have been connected over time. This genetic diversity offers the flexibility to customize DLF's alfalfa products, using both traditional and cutting-edge breeding tools, to various production regions and producer needs.
"We are focused not only on continuing to deliver the same trusted varieties that producers know and trust, but also advancing the alfalfa industry as a whole," said Matt Fanta, DLF Executive Vice President, North America. "By investing in science, people, industry leadership and partnership, we strive to bring a new era of alfalfa excellence and live our purpose – to enrich land, life, and people through seeds and science."
In addition to employing dedicated technical experts and salespeople focused on alfalfa, the company invests heavily in alfalfa research and development. DLF globally has a long history of delivering innovative forage products, with more than 10 percent of DLF employees worldwide working in research and development. "As part of a worldwide organization owned by growers and focused on seed innovation, we are focused on advancing alfalfa traits to meet the changing needs of hay and livestock producers," added Fanta.
As part of the campaign, DLF North America has launched a new microsite to educate users on the importance of alfalfa, and the work it is doing to support growers. To learn more, visit www.welovealfalfa.com.
"We want to help spread the word about the importance of alfalfa and bring attention to the progress being made, as well as the work happening behind the scenes," said Doug Bastian, DLF Alfalfa Business Manager. "DLF wants to ensure that alfalfa remains a vital crop option for farmers in the future and we are leading the way to make that happen.”
DLF is an active participant in the National Alfalfa and Forage Alliance, which advocates for the alfalfa industry with other industry partners to promote enhanced crop insurance options, find new uses for alfalfa and increase public research through the voluntary U.S. Alfalfa Farmer Initiative, also known as the Alfalfa Checkoff.
