Pubescent Wheatgrass
Pubescent Wheatgrass is a hardy perennial grass that shares many similarities with Intermediate Wheatgrass, but with enhanced drought tolerance and winter hardiness. This versatile grass is ideal for grazing and hay production and is well-suited to a wide variety of soil types and elevations. It can grow up to 4 feet tall and is particularly beneficial in low-fertility soils and areas with low rainfall, performing best in loamy to sandy soils. Pubescent Wheatgrass is also known for its ability to remain green during the summer months when provided adequate moisture, making it an excellent option for both hay and pasture crops.
Unlike Intermediate Wheatgrass, Pubescent Wheatgrass spreads more aggressively by rhizomes, further enhancing its ability to establish quickly and cover ground. It thrives in diverse climates, tolerating a wide range of precipitation, temperatures, and elevations, and it has some tolerance to saline soils with salinity levels of up to 12 millimhos per centimeter.
