Sorghastrum nutans

Tomahawk Indiangrass
Tomahawk Indiangrass is a tall, perennial, native grass most noted for its long slender leaves. Indiangrass is slow to grow, waiting for warm soil and summer temperatures. It prefers dry soils and limited rainfall. Indiangrass was a major component of the historical tall grass prairies that dominated the central and eastern United States. It performs well on land vulnerable to wind erosion and is frequently used for roadside cover. It can also be used for livestock forage on range or pastureland.
