ABELMOSCHUS ESCULENTUS

Okra

Okra

Okra is an excellent species for an extra spike in wildlife food plots or as a component in cover crop mixes. Okra has a deep taproot that provides extra drought resistance and helps break up soil compaction. This summer annual species is heat loving and prefers well-drained soils. This plant produces green spineless pods with an average length of 3-5 inches. Although not frost hardy, the plant residue excels in trapping snow for extra moisture for next season. Okra is frost sensitive and should be planted after all danger of frost has passed.
